Welcome to my website. It is used as a resource in connection with my work as Vice Chair of the West Midlands Liberal Democrats. I also use it to give my views on important, political, events and what I have been doing. It will hopefully help keep in touch and keep informed my friends and colleagues from the West Midlands, the UK and overseas.

Below are a series of my most recent posts. On the left a navigation menu to help you find your way around the site. On the right is the latest video from LibDemTV and a collection of quotes, campaigns and newsfeeds.

I hope you enjoy the site, let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by and please come back soon.

Wolverhampton South West thank-you BBQ

Sun 4th May 2008

Despite the rain we held the Wolverhampton South West thank-you BBQ this afternoon - it was very well attended with over 40 people coming along. Unsurprisingly one of the big topics of conversation was what happens now the Council has no overall control - clearly I won't be posting the answer ahead of our further discussions next week!

Liberal Democrats hold balance of power in Wolverhampton

Sat 3rd May 2008

The 2008 elections in Wolverhampton saw the once dominant Labour Party ousted from power leaving the City Council with no over all control. Labour are still the largest group (28) to the Conservatives' 27 and Lib Dem's 5. Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Mike Heap has been besieged with phone calls from both Labour and Conservative councillors asking him to do a deal. He has given them all the same answer - NO!

Claire Darke wins in Park ward

Fri 2nd May 2008

Claire Darke and the Park Ward Lib Dem Team's year long campaign to defeat the sitting Labour councillor has been a great success. When the results were announced at about midday on 2nd May Claire had won with 1490 votes and a majority of 373 over Labour. The Conservative candidate came a poor third at a time when there was a national swing to the Tories.

Zahid Shah nearly topples Labour Leader in St Peters

Fri 2nd May 2008

The Leader of the Labour Group on Wolverhampton Council was a worried man at the count as he saw his once massive majority melt away under the heat on Zahid's Shah's campaign in St. Peter's Ward. It was only at the last box that he realised he had beaten Zahid by just 153 votes. This is Zahid's first attempt at contesting an election and as St. Peter's has been a traditionally safe Labour seat this is a sensational result. Zahid is determined to carry on the campaign and take the seat at the next election in 2010.
