Paul Marsden MP annouces he will not be restanding

5.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 29th Jul 2004

Paul Marsden MP (Shrewsbury and Atcham) has today announced that he will not be standing in the General Election. I used to work with Paul in Shrewsbury after he joined the Liberal Democrats, from December 2001 until the summer of 2002.

Paul's defection in 2001 took a lot of courage and whilst I know he has been through much since then, I will always have respect for him standing up for what he believed in.

I got to know Shrewsbury and Atcham through working there for about six months and I do think the seat is winnable for the Liberal Democrats and look forward to hearing who will be selected.
