Protecting Europe's farmland birds

6.02.32pm GMT Tue 16th Nov 2004

Birdlife International, the international organisation that the UK's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, has launched an on-line petition to protect Europe's farmland birds. I used to work for the RSPB their their Parliamentary Campaigns Officer and worked on this campaign. Obviously I am still supportive of the aims of the organisation and have signed this petition and am urging others to do so too.

If you would like to sign their petition to help protect Europe's farmland birds. The on-line petition is to the Commissioner Commisioner for Agriculture Mrs. Mariann Fischer Boel, who Birdlife International fear will not be prioritising conservation when she takes up her role on 1st November. Superb species such as the great busted, spanish imperial eagle, white stork and corncrake, as well as our more familiar threatened farmland birds, and habitats such as flower-rich meadows and alpine pastures are all at risk if conservation is not prioritised within agriculture policies across Europe.
