Abbas elected in Palestine

Mahmoud Abbas has claimed victory in the Palestinian presidential election. Abbas appears to be a moderate and his election provides an new opportunity to make progress in the Middle East. I hope that the State of Israel and Sharon in particular find it possible to work with Abbas and hopefully come to some resolution on the Israel/Palestine issue.
