Liberal Democrats could win the General Election according to a new poll1.00.00pm GMT Mon 31st Jan 2005
Now I am not normally a huge believer in polls, but I thought this one was worth a mention. A new poll finds the Liberal Democrats could nearly double their support and win the General Election. The poll was conducted by CommunicateResearch for The Independent, the poll records 37% of people would vote Liberal Democrat if thought the Liberal Democrats had a realistic chance of winning in their constituency. If people voted along these lines in winnable constituencies, Mr Kennedy would become Prime Minister with a majority of 126 over Labour, and the Conservatives would be reduced to a rump of 56 seats. Councillor Ian Shires said "This poll shows that three party politics is the reality in Britain today, and if people vote Liberal Democrat they will get Liberal Democrats, in greater numbers than ever before. We have been the Real Opposition to Labour through this Parliament, and when the general election comes we are the real threat to Labour and Conservative MPs alike."
