Tory MP suspended for selling tours of the House of Commons

5.00.00pm GMT Thu 3rd Feb 2005

Jonathan Sayeed, Mid Bedfordshire's Conservative MP, has had the Whip withdrawn by Michael Howard and is likely to be suspended from the House of Commons. Mr. Sayeed was caught selling tours of the House of Commons for £800 a time.

After the sleaze that appeared to grip MPs in the mid 1990's you would have thought they would have learnt their lesson, but apparently not! The Commons Standards and Privileges Committee's report said that "Mr Sayeed's conduct has fallen well below the standards the house expects, and risked damaging its reputation".
