African Liberal Network Training Day 1

3.00.00pm GMT Fri 11th Mar 2005

Today has been the first day of the African Liberal Network's Campaign training workshop in Tanzania. It has gone really well so far, there are three trainers from the UK and just under forty participants. The important thing to remember when training overseas is not to tell anyone how things must be done but take the UK experience and see how best it may work in the participants countries.

Today we went through the introductions and the basics - we concentrated on what is Grassroots campaigning, how to best identify issues including a practical session on the participants talking to members of the public, defining the key campaign messages and how to get the message across to electors. The workshop runs for two more days and we will fit in a number of additional subjects.
