Terrorism Bill passes into law

6.00.00pm GMT Mon 14th Mar 2005

The Terrorism Bill has passed into law after a marathon session after the Prime Minister offered a concession in which the Act will be fully re-examined, and possibly repealed in a year's time. Sadly the Liberal Democrat attempts to ensure all control orders are issued by judges and a stronger standard of proof were defeated when the Conservatives withdrew their support for them.

Whilst I am glad the Government backed down on allowing a review in a year I am still upset that this illiberal legislation has passed into law and hope it will be repealed in a years time or even earlier if Labour lose the forthcoming General Election.
