Paul Marsden - a double defection

5.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th Apr 2005

The news of the first morning of the General Election for me was Paul Marsden MP (Shrewsbury and Atcham) resigning from the Liberal Democrats and re-applying to join Labour. I am genuinely confused by this, I cannot see any reason why Paul Marsden would have done this and am sceptical of his stated reasons.

When Paul first defected to the Liberal Democrats I worked quite closely with him in Shrewsbury. He certainly struck me as someone who would not ever return to Labour so am quite surprised of his actions.

If Paul is reading this, perhaps he would get in touch and let me know why he has left the Liberal Democrats and why he would like to rejoin Labour.
