Challenging Rob Marris MP over ID Cards

I have today written to the local newspapers expressing his dismay at Labour MP Rob Marris support for ID Cards.

I wrote:

I was disappointed to see that Rob Marris, our slavishly loyal Blairite MP, again voted to support the introduction of Identity Cards. Identity Cards will be expensive, bureaucratic and ineffective. ID Cards are also fundamentally illiberal, there is no good reason for personal information to be stored in this way.

ID Cards will cost everyone at least £93, even more to the state for the bureaucracy and will not work - they did not stop the awful attacks in New York and Madrid and there is little evidence to suggest that they would stop a terrorist attack in the UK.

The money wasted on ID Cards would be better spent on 10,000 more police officers and 20,000 community wardens. Wolverhampton Liberal Democrats are running a petition on our website www.wolverhamptonlibdems.org.uk If you agree with the Liberal Democrats on ID Cards visit our website and sign our petition or contact us by post at Liberal Democrats, FREEPOST WV2092, Wolverhampton, WV4 4BR
