Children in Africa, will they survive to adulthood?

The UN last yesterday appealed again for money to save 3.6million people starving in Niger. How following Live 8 and G8 can this be happening - surely the purpose was not just to highlight the problem but actual make a difference and stop this kind of tragedy.

Niger is the world's second poorest country - drought and locust plague has resulted in up to 3.6million people facing starvation. The UN ran a £17million appeal but has only received about a third of the required monies!

The Horn of Africa is also suffering from poor rains and has left the region facing severe famine. It is suggested that almost 17.5million people in Ethiopia, Uganda, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti are at risk of starvation.

If you can, try and make a difference by donating to one of aid charities working in the area like Oxfam.
