IRA arms decommissioned

The breaking news this afternoon is that the IRA arms have been decommissioned. John de Chastelain has said "The decommissioning of the arms of the IRA is now an accomplished fact". This of course is fantastic news and hopefully will help Northern Ireland carry on down the road to a lasting peaceful settlement.

Back in 1998 I attended a Youth Council of the Isles meeting with representative from all political parties in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland invited. Sadly most Unionist Parties did not send representatives but it was very useful meeting the representatives from the Northern Irish and Republic of Ireland representatives that did attend.
