Clarke crashes out the Conservative Leadership race5.28.05pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 18th Oct 2005 After the first round of voting Ken Clarke has been eliminated from the Conservatives Leadership contest. Despite being the most popular Conservative politician in the country, Ken came fourth in the contest to choose a new Conservative Leader. The leadership election seems to be a regular occurrence for the Conservative Party with one in 1995, 1997, 2001 and 2003! David Davies topped topped the poll with 62 votes, followed by David Cameron with 56 votes, Liam Fox was third with 42 votes and Ken Clarke came last with 38 votes. The top three candidates will now face a second ballot on Thursday.
