Last night saw the Government succeed at the Third Reading of the Identity Cards Bill. The Bill, which will introduce compulsory Identity Cards which we will have to pay for, these ID Cards will not stop terrorism, cut crime or benefit fraud. These ID Cards will only add to the powers of a 'Big Brother' state and even by the Government's own admission increase the number of Asian people stopped by the police.

I am fundamentally against the introduction of ID Cards and to quote Clarence Harry Willcock "I am a Liberal and I am against this sort of thing." Clarence Harry Willcock was the person by refusing to show his Identity Card led to the abolition of the wartime Identity Cards in 1950. Clarence Harry Willcock was of course a Liberal Party member.

Rob Marris, the Blairite loyalist MP for Wolverhampton South West, of course consistently voted with the Government in last night's votes. He voted with six times in total, for the Bill and also to stop it being sent back to a Select Committee to re-examine the Bill. Polls have shown the General Public is against compulsory Identity Cards that will cost up to £300 per person and from our campaigning in Wolverhampton South West it would appear many of his constituents agree with us - does Rob have no idea on Identity Cards.
