Happy Eid Al-Fittr

8.00.00am GMT Fri 4th Nov 2005

Happy Eid Al-Fittr, making the end of Ramadan. Muhammad celebrated the first Eid in 624 CE after the victory of the battle of Jang-e-Badar. These days Muslims are celebrating not only the month long fasting during Ramadan, but thanking Allah for the help and strength that he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

The festival begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky, hence the date can be slightly different for different communities although most rely on a standing 'sighting'.

Happy Eid Al-Fittr to all those celebrating.
