Blunkett resigns, again!

1.33.49pm GMT Wed 2nd Nov 2005

David Blunkett has today resigned for the second time after failure to consult a watchdog about several extra-parliamentary jobs, ironically after his first resignation.

Downing Street has announced that Blair accepted Blunkett's resignation "reluctantly", but that Blunkett himself now felt that his position had become "untenable". This is Blunkett's second resignation in under a year. He first resigned as Home Secretary and now as Work and Pensions Secretary.

This second resignation should see the end to Blunkett's political career but then people said that about Peter Mandelson who went on to become a European Commissioner, so who knows what will be next for Mr. Blunkett.
