Whilst Tony introduced and increased Tuition Fees Cherie says she could not have gone to University without. It seems to be case of pulling the ladder up behind them, they benefited from 'Free Education' but do not think others should be able too - what hypocrisy!

Cherie Blair has said the barristers' magazine Counsel that she would have ended up working in a shop if the state had not paid for her university education. She said "The truth is, if I hadn't had the funding from the state to go to university I would have worked in a shop." Tony Blair, after stating he wouldn't (in the 1997 General Election) abolished Free Education in 1998 and introduced Tuition Fees. The Fees were originally introduced at £1,00 but will increase to £3,000 a year from September 2006.

My brother and I were two of the lucky ones to go to University prior to the introduction of Tuition Fees, if Tuition Fees had been in place then I doubt both, or possible either, of us would have had the opportunity to go. Tuition Fees have reduced the number of applicants from poorer backgrounds from applying and also ensuring that more students have to stay at home whilst studying at University therefore missing out on part of the University experience and not learning the life skills people who live away learn.
