We must stand!

2.55.10pm GMT Fri 11th Nov 2005

Yesterday saw two more by-elections in the West Midlands, both in the Borough of Telford and Wrekin in Arleston and College wards. The Liberal Democrats stood in neither of these wards, this means that we have not stood in five by-elections in the West Midlands over the last few weeks. It is simply not good enough, we are letting down ourselves and more importantly the general public.

We must stand every by-election, even if its just to have a name on a piece of paper. In one of the by-elections there was only a Conservative stand so was elected unopposed, is this what we really want?

There is really no excuse and by not standing we are also letting the general public down who, in my opinion, have the right to vote for the Liberal Democrats.

However, I am not sure how we can encourage (we cannot force) local parties to stand candidates - answers on an e-postcard please...
