Blair goes nuclear

5.35.46pm GMT Tue 29th Nov 2005

Tony Blair has today has announced a now "feverish rethinking" of energy policy in a speech to business leaders, leading the way for the UK to return to nuclear power. Greenpeace protesters delayed the start of the speech for an hour by climbing to the roof of the CBI conference and unfurling a "Nuclear: Wrong Answer".

Mr Blair announced "I can today announce that we have established a review of the UK's progress against the medium and long-term energy white paper goals."

Blair of course is wrong on nuclear, but right on the energy crisis - we should however be looking at green energy like wind, wave or solar power as a way of easing our reliance on fossil fuels.
