Yesterday Liz and Alan Taylor won the Herefordshire Council and Hereford City by-elections. The seats were previously held by an Independent but were gained by the Liberal Democrats after a full campaign, which benefited from help from across the whole West Midlands Region - well done to all that helped.

The Herefordshire Council by-election victory means the Liberal Democrats are now the second largest grouping in the Council. The City Council remains Liberal Democrat controlled.

The full results were as follows:

Herefordshire Council by-election

Liz Taylor - Liberal Democrat - 831 votes - 44.0%

Conservatives - 608 votes - 33.0%

Independent - 274 votes - 14.5%

Labour - 118 votes - 6.3%

Independent - 56 - 3.0%

Hereford City by-election

Alan Taylor - Liberal Democrat - 834 votes

Conservatives - 618 votes

Independent - 315 votes

Labour - 123 votes

Alan and Liz Taylor, Polly Andrews, Chris Wiggan, Helen Jones, Paul Keetch MP and the Hereford team want to thank everyone that helped. Helen Jones said "This is a fantastic result and shows where we work heard we win, however we couldn't do it without all the outside help that we received. It also shows the Conservatives, even after throwing the kitchen sink at the by-elections and at a time when they are enjoying some of their best coverage for years, are not deemed worthy of election by the people of Hereford."
