What is Bob Geldof up to?

12.36.02pm GMT Thu 29th Dec 2005

So Bob Geldof is the new adviser to the Conservative working party on globalisation and aid, I am not sure what he is doing this for. I have never had much respect for him but this new position loses any I had left. I know to some he is a hero for Live Aid and Live 8 and he says this is non-partisan but for some reason I have never respected him.

Geldof has been criticised in the past by aid and development campaigners for being too close to the Labour Government and not being more critical of world leaders at the G8 summit in the summer. I suspect he was not too close to Labour, or will be to the Conservatives but has a real problem with being too close to any form of power, I hope I am wrong but we shall see.
