11.00.35am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 25th Apr 2006

Independent MP and AM (Assembly Member) Peter Law has this morning died after a 12-month battle with a brain tumour.

Peter Law left the Labour party after 40 years following a dispute over the use of an all-woman shortlist in Blaenau Gwent. He won the seat with a majority of 9,121 (from Labour's 19,000 odd majority) in last year's General Election.
