Clarke's letting them all out...

Charles Clarke

Charles Clarke Labour's Home Secretary

Well it appears Charles Clarke appears to have lost around 1,000 prisoners. Many of these were supposed to have been deported after serving their sentences but he appears to have lost them. Amazingly he is still the Home Secretary!

He did to be fair to him offered to resign but Tony refused to let him go - shouldn't he have been sacked? He knew about this last summer. In a statement to the House of Commons today Clarke said it was "deeply regrettable", well there is an understatement.

There is probably another question, that sprung to my mind if we sometimes deport people after they have been in prison, would it not be an idea to deport them instead of sending them to prison or let there home country imprison them - surely this would waste less taxpayers money and also reduced prison overcrowding? Have I missed something blindingly obvious?
