Wolverhampton South West election results11.18.48am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 5th May 2006 Last night's Wolverhampton Count went on until the early hours of this morning, the Count was badly run (again) with a two wait when effectively nothing was done (they say they were trying to verify some postal votes). We almost did it in Park ward and held our second place in St Peters ward. In Park the full result was: Labour - 1,405 votes Robin Lawrence - Liberal Democrats - 1,277 votes Conservative - 1,129 votes Majority 128 votes Although we had hoped to win and at points last night it looked like we had this was a really good result in 2004 we were quite a distant third with around 600 votes. The Labour and Conservative votes are both down but not by as much as I thought they could be. Turnout was up which is very pleasing and shows all three parties fought a good campaign. The only criticism of the campaign I have and what may be the reason we did not win was the Conservatives did a vitriolic last minute leaflets that attacked us containing a number of false statements. In St. Peters Lexi Lawrence held second place and Labour now have a 903 majority there. I stood in Tettenhall Regis - we came fourth in 2004 behind the Conservatives, UKIP and Labour, UKIP did not stand this time. I came third with 541 votes which considering I spent all my time in Park ward was not unreasonable. Elsewhere in South West we were third and no seats changed hands. Sadly in Springvale ward (Wolverhampton South East) in the Liberals took a seat from the Liberal Democrats, though with a former Liberal Democrat Councillor who appears to have had a decent person vote. The campaign there was very nasty and I suspect there will be further fall-out from that result.
