Local Election results8.22.46pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th May 2006 I have finally had a chance to look at the Local Election results both nationally and in the West Midlands. Its a very mixed picture we did well in places I would not have thought we would, less so where I thought we would do very well and whilst Labour didn't collapse the Conservatives didn't do too well. In the West Midlands it was again a mixed bag with us gaining a seat(s) in Birmingham, Cannock Chase, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Shrewsbury (a technical gain but a by-election hold) and Solihull but lost a seat(s) in Coventry, Dudley and in Wolverhampton (to a sitting Councillor who joined the Liberals!). We also 'won' three Westminster seats in these Local Elections - Birmingham Hall Green, Birmingham Yardley and Solihull which bodes well (Hereford, Ludlow and West Worcestershire did not have elections). We did not win any Councillors but are the largest party in Cannock Chase. Five of the Councils that changed hands were in the West Midlands. Labour lost control in Newcastle-under-Lyme (because of our gains), Redditch and Stoke-on-Trent. Two were won by the Conservatives from No Overall Control - Coventry and Shrewsbury - in both these it was just by winning two additional Councillors. Again well done to everyone that stood or helped.
