After Himeji yesterday we went on to Mount Koya, or Koya-san as its known. The monk Kukai Knivas (later known as Kobo Danshi) founded a sect of Buddhism here in the 6th century. After we arrived we had a very quick look around before staying the night in a monastery.

In the morning we woke up and participated in the prayer ceremony before heading out to have more of a look around. The main highlight was the Okunion Cemetery where Kobo Danishi's Mausoleum is and the Shrine has 10,000 lanterns lighting it.

Today was also Amanda's 30th birthday - and it was certainly a memorable one I hope, we headed back to Tokyo where we went out for a meal to celebrate.
