Yesterday Sean and I headed away from Tokyo and Amanda joined us having taken next week off of work, just over half of our trip will be out of Tokyo and half of that will be based in or around Kyoto. We will be staying four nights in Kyoto in a traditional Japanese style accommodation - ie mats on the floor, should be an experience!
We got to Kyoto relatively late and after eating visited some of the sites, the next day we explored the city much more fully.
Yesterday we saw Sanjusangen-do (which has lots of statutes) and Kiyamizu-dera (which has had a temple since 778) as well as seeing a beautifully kept cemetery with some magnificent tombstones.
Today we visited the monthly flea market at To-Ji Temple which also has the largest wooden Pagoda in the country. We stopped at Kyoto station to visit the observation deck before visiting the Roukuo-Ji-Temple and the Golden Pavilion.
