The Gardens at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto

Today we looked around the old Imperial Palace building - Kyoto became the capital of Japan in 784 when the Emperor moved it from Nara and before it was moved to Edo-Tokyo. After the palace we visited the impressive Nijo-jo fortress and then the wooden Temple at Higashi-Hogan-Ji. However rain put pay to more sightseeing but I think we saw a lot of Kyoto.

Sadly although we hunted every night we did not see any Geisha. Kyoto used to be famous for its Geisha but sadly it seems this noble tradition has all but disappeared.
