Strange goings on in Bromley10.26.02am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 26th Jun 2006
Okay I may be a late with this but it seems the Conservative Candidate for the Bromley by-election - Bob Neill - may not actually be able to stand! This latest problem follows on from FIFA's legal department asking the Conservatives not to break copyright and remove a number of posters.
Bob Neill is invalid to take a seat in Parliament, if he should win on Thursday, and has made a false declaration on his nomination form. Bob Neill's ban from parliament results from his membership of the North East London Strategic Health Authority, a position that explicitly prevents him standing for Parliament under the House of Commons Disqualification Act of 1975. More seriously, in order to stand in the Bromley & Chislehurst by-election, Neill signed a declaration on his nomination form stating that he was not in breach of the House of Commons Disqualification Act of 1975 "at the time of nomination". Bob Neill, in a piece in The Telegraph, says "I took legal advice when I signed the form" which of course makes it even worse. UKIP apparently is threatening to launch an election petition should Bob Neill win on Thursday.
The Conservatives put the World Cup on a poster but FIFA, who own the copyright on the image of the world cup and swiftly ordered its removal, leading to the re-design. Now there is no World cup but there is also no Conservative Party logo either. I have to admit it was a good poster though!
