Last night a High Court Judge quashed a six Control Orders, the Judge, Justice Sullivan, said the the Home Secretary "had no power to make them under human rights law". Justice Sullivan said the Control Orders were incompatible with the European Human Rights Convention.

The Home Secretary John Reid however said that strongly disagreed with the ruling and will try to overturn it in the Court of Appeal next month. He went on to say the Control Order system was needed to deal with international terror suspects who could not be deported on human rights grounds to countries where there was risk of torture.
