Bromley and Chislehurst result would see Wolverhampton South West go Liberal Democrat11.20.35am GMT Fri 30th Jun 2006
If yesterday's by-election result in Bromley and Chislehurst was replicated in Wolverhampton South West at the next General Election the Liberal Democrats would win the seat. Colin Ross, who stood in 2005 for the Liberal Democrats said "I am delighted to see that the Bromley result shows that we can win in Wolverhampton South West. I went to Bromley to help Ben Abbotts and although he missed out on victory by the narrowest of margins he fought an excellent campaign, we will be looking to replicate the swing in Wolverhampton at the next General Election." In Bromley there was a swing of 14% from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats and 16% from the Labour Party to the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats in Bromley gained an extra 17% (the Conservatives lost 11% and Labour lost 15%). The result in Wolverhampton South West based on these figures would be a Liberal Democrat victory with 30.4%, Labour second on 29.4%, the Conservatives third on 26.5% with UKIP and others taking the remainder of the vote. If the swing was replicated across the West Midlands we would gain a number of addition seats, detailed below - based on 2005 boundaries (the new notional boundaries are not all available yet): Birmingham Edgbaston (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Hall Green (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Hodge Hill (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Ladywood (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Perry Barr (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Selly Oak (Gain from Labour) Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath (Gain from Labour, seat due to abolished at next General Election) Burton (Gain from Labour) Cannock Chase (Gain from Labour) Coventry North West (Gain from Labour) Coventry South (Gain from Labour) Leominster (Gain from Conservatives) Ludlow (Gain from Conservatives) Newcastle-under-Lyme (Gain from Labour) Nuneaton (Gain from Labour) Redditch (Gain from Labour) Rugby and Kenilworth (Gain from Conservatives) Shrewsbury and Atcham (Gain from Conservatives) Stafford (Gain from Labour) Staffordshire Moorlands (Gain from Labour) Stoke-on-Trent South (Gain from Labour) Stourbridge (Gain from Labour) Stratford-on-Avon (Gain from Conservatives) Tamworth (Gain from Labour) The Wrekin (Gain from Conservatives) Warwick and Leamington (Gain from Labour) Wolverhampton South West (Gain from Labour) Worcester (Gain from Labour) Worcestershire West (Gain from Conservatives)
