God is against nuclear

8.08.00am GMT Tue 11th Jul 2006

Well that is what some of the country's most senior Bishops have said. Nineteen Bishops have written a letter to the Independent warning Tony Blair that replacing Britain's Trident nuclear weapons would be "evil" and "profoundly anti-God".

The nineteen Bishops wrote "Trident and other nuclear arsenals threaten long-term and fatal damage to the global environment and its people. As such, their end is evil and both possession and use are profoundly anti-God acts. Nuclear weapons are a direct denial of the Christian concept of peace and reconciliation, which are social and economic as well as physical and spiritual."
