Wellesbourne by-election results

10.19.40am GMT Fri 21st Jul 2006

Yesterday two by-elections took place in Wellesbourne, one for Stratford District Council and one for Warwickshire County Council. The Conservatives won what were hard-fought elections, the Liberal Democrats were just 93 votes behind in the District Council election. In the current climate with the Conservatives still doing well under Cameron it is a good result to come so close.

The full result for Stratford District was:

Conservative - 897 votes

Priscilla Cook, Liberal Democrat - 804 votes

Labour - 197 votes

Turnout 35.9%

The full result for Warwickshire County Council was:

Conservative - 1112 votes

David Johnston, Liberal Democrat - 776 votes

Labour - 227 votes

Turnout 35.6%

There is still another by-election pending on Stratford District Council. Polling will take place in Alcester on 24 August, this time it is a Liberal Democrat defence - more details in both forthcoming events and the by-election page on the navigation menu.
