Another Place and Superman Returns9.01.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 6th Aug 2006
Just got back from a great weekend in Liverpool and the surrounds. As well as catching up with friends (some of whom I hadn't seen for ages), Vic and I went to Southport to the seaside, saw the Anthony Gormley installation - Another Place - at Crosby beach and Superman Returns.
I had heard of Another Place but it was truly spectacular. It was created by Antony Gormley (who also did the Angel of the North). It consists of 100 cast-iron life-size figures of Gormley spread out along three kilometres of Crosby beach, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. Every sculpture is different due to the unique environment each of them lives in (ie how much gets covered at high tide etc) and some are amazingly different. Sadly the work is due to leave the UK in November so you need to visit soon.
We also went to see Superman Returns, I am also cautious about old favourites having another installment years after the last. I am pleased to say although they had updated bits, including the introduction, it remained good fun. Kevin Spacey stole the show, which is no surprise, as Lex Luthor. I wont spoil it but it was also left open enough for many more Superman films.
