Almost Vice President loses Senate Primary!

10.34.00am GMT Wed 9th Aug 2006

Joseph Lieberman - Al Gore's Vice-Presidential Candidate in 2000 (when of course they won) has lost his Connecticut Senate Primary to a relatively unknown anti-war candidate. Ned Lamont received 52% of the vote against Lieberman's 48%

If Lieberman can lose a Primary, then frankly anyone can. Are we about to see the rebirth of the Democrats. Ever since Bill Clinton's presidency ended so did the Democrats chance of running the USA. If they could not beat Bush did they have any chance? Maybe they have hit their nadir and this result shows the grassroots anti-war Democrats are back in charge.

Analysts are now wondering what this does to Hillary Clinton's Presidential ambitions, very little I suspect, she is a Clinton and therefore the rules do not apply to her. If I was Hillary I would be more worried by Al Gore right now than Lieberman's result.
