Today is A-Level result day, congratulations to everyone who sat them - I hope you got the grades you wanted or needed. University beckons for some, sadly so does student debt.

This week it was revealed that students starting university this year will pay record bills for their degrees. Undergraduates now expect to pay an average of £33,152 to fund a three-year degree course, these costs will leave them with average debts of £14,779 by the time they complete their education. Of course tuition and top-up fees are a large part of this debt.

I was fortunate enough to go to University prior to the introduction of fees, I am fairly sure my brother and I would not have both been to University. I continue to campaign against fees and am not surprised that it is often mentioned by people on the doorstep as a reason for not voting Labour.
