Changes over organ donations10.29.44am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 1st Sep 2006
Organ donations is something I have a particular interest in so was glad to see the law regarding consent have changed from today. Under the Human Tissue Act people will have a legal right for their wishes to be followed, relatives will no longer be able to have the final say. I would personally go a lot further, using the French system, everyone should be presumed to be a donor unless they have expressly opted-out. Far too many people did or are in agony as there are not enough donors. I would urge everyone to sign up to be a donor and help others after your own death. Furthermore tell your family and friends you are a donor and make sure you carry your donor card with you - many donations do not happen as the doctors do not always know (there are many glitches in the system).
