Alan Bennett's new play - the History Boys

Alan Bennett's new play - the History Boys

Last night I went to see The History Boys with the Selly Oak Councillors Alistair Dow, Robert Wright, Dave Radcliffe and Dave's parents at the Birmingham Rep. The History Boys is the new Alan Bennett play, which has come straight from Broadway. It is very good and runs until 16 September - if you get a chance go and see it.

The History Boys is set around a sixth-form History class and their quest to get into Oxford or Cambridge. The play is really looking at different ways of teaching - to pass exams or to gain an all-rounded education. There is also a sub-plot of the boys, and teachers, sex lives and sexuality.

The play is really well done, mixing acting on stage to pre-recorded video's set to a great 80's soundtrack. well worth seeing.
