Liberal Democrats win in Ludlow St. Peters12.01.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 15th Sep 2006
Tracey Huffer and the Liberal Democrat team held yesterday's by-election in Ludlow St. Peters. Not only did they hold the seat they did so with a swing to them from the Conservatives. I believe the swing would be enough for Matthew Green and the Liberal Democrats to regain the Parliamentary Seat at the next General Election if repeated across the seat. The Full Result was as follows: Tracey Huffer - 488 votes 57% Conservative - 298 votes 35% Green - 70 votes 8% Turnout 44.1% (a record!) The previous result in 2003 was: Liberal Democrat 366 votes Liberal Democrat 276 votes - Seat of the Councillor that stood down. Conservative 170 votes Independent 150 votes Heather Kidd, Liberal Democrat Leader of South Shropshire Council said "This is a tremendous vote of confidence in our record on the Council, and in our Candidate Tracey Huffer. We will continue to set new standards of practical, green and efficient local government."
