PILDAT have emailed me to say they are launching a Youth Parliament in Pakistan. Hopefully this development is a result of the project I was involved in earlier in the year when I visited Pakistan and met with and debated with Pakistani youth.

PILDAT say the aim is to engage Pakistani Youth in political and democratic discourse. The Youth Parliament will be generally patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan in terms of its rules of procedure and conduct of business. Initially the Youth Parliament will be for one year and it will meet for at least 30 days in a year at Islamabad. The Youth Parliament will have a total of 60 members, with 50 % women and representatives of different geographic and socio-economic segments of Pakistan society.
