Shropshire - Liberal Democrats gain one, Conservatives gain one10.54.24am GMT Fri 1st Dec 2006
Yesterday saw three by-elections in Shropshire, two County Council by-elections and one District Council by-election. The Liberal Democrats won one of the County by-elections from the Independents, the Conservatives held the other County by-election and gained the District Council by-election again from the Independents. The Liberal Democrats were ruthless about targeting the Whittington County by-election putting virtually all of their resources into that campaign. It paid off. The full results: Whittington County by-election: Trevor Davies - Liberal Democrat - 680 votes - 54.9% Conservative - 559 votes - 45.1% Turnout - 24.9% Liberal Democrat gain from Ind Oswestry County by-election Conservative - 770 votes Labour - 338 votes John Stevens - Liberal Democrat - 324 votes Turnout - 15.2% Conservative hold Oswestry District by-election Conservative - 314 votes Romer Hoseason - Liberal Democrats - 121 votes Labour - 114 votes Turnout 30.8% Conservative gain from Ind
