Councillor Karen Hamilton sleeping rough

A good friend of mine Karen Hamilton, of the three Liberal Democrat Councillors for Perry Barr in Birmingham has been sleeping rough. However it has been for a good cause - to raise awareness and funding for St. Basils. St. Basils work with young people who may be at risk of homelessness or are actually homeless, they actively go out and find people sleeping rough and offer support/advice and get them off the streets.

Sadly it rained most of the night and the layers of cardboard and plastic could not keep out the dampness and the rain eventually got the better of us. Karen says she couldn't sleep and was freezing cold for most of the night.

Karen raised over £200 for sleeping out for one night, I will be posting my cheque for £20 to Karen tomorrow morning and sure she would be happy to take any more donations if you want to make any. It's been a few years since I did a sleep-out but having done it a couple of times, once in Wolverhampton and once in Hereford with the local MP Paul Keetch, I know that the person who does it learns an awful lot - well done Karen.
