Labour lose in Telford and Wrekin to the Telford and Wrekin Peoples Association

10.18.30am GMT Fri 8th Dec 2006

Labour lost what should have been a safe seat - Dawley Magna - last night in Telford and Wrekin last night, their majority over the Conservatives in 2003 was several hundred. I do not know the full story behind this election but it seems quite a surprising result. There was no Liberal Democrat candidate - possibly to assist the Peoples Association.

The full result:

TWPA 649 votes

Labour 476 votes

Conservative 445 votes

The 2003 result:

Labour 1522/1488/1268 votes

Conservatives 878/844 votes

SALT 359/305 votes

Elsewhere the Liberal Democrats gained a seat in Camden from Labour. Labour actually fell to third behind the Greens - Liberal Democrats 1093 votes, Green 812 votes, Labour 808 votes and Conservatives 198 votes. The Liberal Democrats also safely defended a seat in Horsham with a majority of almost a hundred over the Conservatives.
