Meacher to stand against Brown, Corbyn to stand for Deputy (not connected!)4.29.51pm GMT Wed 20th Dec 2006 The rumours are ex-Environment Minister Michael Meacher will be standing for Labour Leader against Gordon Brown and John McDonnell (if he gets the 44 nominations needed). I actually quite like Meacher or what I have seen and heard of him. The other, not connected, rumour is that Jeremy Corbyn MP is considering a bid for the party's deputy leadership race. Mr Corbyn earlier told Guardian Unlimited today that he wants to see an anti-war candidate on the ballot.
