MPs should do more for charity says poll - They are!10.25.16am GMT Tue 30th Jan 2007
Today there is a Populas Poll out saying MPs should do more for charity. Well some are, there is an organisation called the Westminster Challenge that has been set up to ensure politicians do more for charities both directly and indirectly. The Westminster Challenge, set up last year to encourage MPs to become more actively involved with charities and help them develop a greater understanding of their needs and issues. Richard Stephenson, Chairman of the Westminster Challenge said "MPs are doing their bit for charity, but the public still want more. Many of the politicians polled are eager to do more for charity and we will help them build closer links with the third sector," He went on to say "The public are pretty cynical about politicians at all levels, whether that is MPs or councillors. We're not trying to portray politicians in a better light, but this poll shows some of the good work they already do." A cross-party group of five MPs - including Liberal Democrats Jenny Willott and Nick Clegg will this month launch the Challenge's first major project, trekking across the Arctic by husky sled to raise money for the Children's Society, Crime-stoppers and Cancer Research.
