Labour holds in Bede

11.07.09am GMT Fri 9th Feb 2007

Despite the snow yesterday the good residents of Bede (in Bedworth) turned out to vote in the by-election - 1,750 braved the weather to take up their democratic right. Labour held on despite a massive BNP campaign, Alice Field and the Liberal Democrats came fourth with 119 votes in an area that we have not contested in recent memory. I know Alice and her team will build on this result and are in for the long haul.

The full result:

Labour 658

BNP 546

Conservative 301

Alice Field - Liberal Democrat 119

English Democrat 75

Independent 43

UKIP 8
