First ethnic minority to be elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly

10.41.04am GMT Fri 9th Mar 2007

I am trying to following the Northern Ireland Assembly elections, mainly because I am a geeky STV (single transferable vote) fan. South Belfast has elected Anna Lo, Alliance Party candidate, to the Assembly. Anna is the first person from an ethnic minority background to win a seat in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Anna, who is the chief executive of the Chinese Welfare Association, is originally from Hong Kong. She secured the fourth highest vote in the constituency, with 3,829 first preference votes.
