First resignation over Trident

2.41.11pm GMT Mon 12th Mar 2007

With the Trident vote due this week we are likely to see a number of Labour MPs vote against the Government. Today we have had the first resignation over the issue. Nigel Griffiths, the Deputy Leader of the Commons, said he was quitting "with a heavy heart... but a clear conscience".

Stephen Pound has also confirmed he would also vote against the Government on Wednesday, despite being a member of the Government. He will meet whips tomorrow to discuss his position.
