Nominations - what a disaster

12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 4th Apr 2007

Nominations for this years local elections have now closed, the whole process this year seems to have been a disaster.

Election staff seem to have been extra tough this year on the papers being filled in correctly - and rightly so, its not that difficult to get the form done properly with the party name, description and the assent of members of the public. However it would appear that some election staff have gone beyond this (I have heard reports from many areas of the country and across several parties).

There seems to have been particular confusion over the need for an Appointment of Agent to be completed (it doesn't need to be if you wish to Agent yourself and even so didn't need to be in today), but worse some nomination papers were rejected as some staff did not realise the Party names were also one of the descriptions registered!

Nominations don't take long to fill in or get right but likewise its not difficult for election staff to check them and accept properly filled in ones!
