Chris Huhne visits Ludlow to praise the Liberal Democrats environmental record

11.17.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 11th Apr 2007

Last week Liberal Democrat's Shadow Environment Minister, Chris Huhne MP visited Ludlow to help launch the South Shropshire Liberal Democrat's local election Manifesto . Chris Huhne MP visited the ground-breaking bio-digester in Ludlow and the Eco-Park before launching the Manifesto with Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners in front of the Council Offices.

After the launch Chris Huhne MP said "South Shropshire's record on the environment is excellent. It just shows what can be achieved, even by a council with limited resources. It represents great value for money. Well over 50% of waste is now being recycled and the figure improves all the time and it's not difficult to see why with a Liberal Democrat led council so committed to improving it. The only sad note is that Conservative councillors on the Council have voted time and time again to block these advances. There must be a danger that this progress could grind to a halt unless the Liberal Democrats do well in the local election on May 3rd."

Mr. Huhne added "I also visited Tory-led Bridgnorth District Council, and they are lagging a long way behind, they really ought to be learning from South Shropshire. It's quite clear that the Conservatives are reluctant recyclers at best."
